Majuli Island is the world's biggest riverine island which is located within the watercourse Brahmaputra. Majuli Island is known as the cultural city or cultural-heap of Assam state. Island is also called "Satra-Pitha" because Majuli has 22 Satras which was established Sri Sri Sankardeva & Sri Sri Madhabdeva. Satra is the influential cultural and religious institute of Majuli. Satra is also called center of Neo-Vaishnavite culture of Sri Sri Sankardeva and Madhabdeva. Two famous Satras are located at Kamalabari region of Majuli Island and both of them are world famous for their Neo-Vaishnavite culture. The name of the Satras is- Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Satra and Sri Sri Natun Kamalabari Satra.
Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Satra:
Sri Sri Uttar Kamalabari Satra is one of the famous religious and cultural monastery and it is located in the middle of the Majuli Island. The Satra is situated at the North-Eastern region of Kamalabari, Majuli. Basically, the Satra is located at a distance of approx. 1.5 k.m. from the Kamalabari Town of Majuli. The Satra was established by Badala Padma Ata in the year 1673. Badala Padma Ata was a disciple of Sri Sri Madhabdeva. The Satra is well-known for several performing arts and cultural practices like Ankia Bhaona, Gayan Bayan, Satriya Nritya, Sutradhar Nritya, Mati Akhara etc. Ankia Bhaona is one of the most popular dramas of Sri Sri Sankardeva & Sri Sri Madhabdeva which was written in the Sanskrit Language. This Satra has so many popular artists like Muktiyar Bayan, Late Maniram Dutta, and disciples who are well-trained in different dance practices like Matiakhara, Satriya Nritya, Sutradhar Nritya. They performed various cultural stage programmes on National as well as the International platform. This Satra has a major contribution to the Classical Dance status & Cultural Industry of Assam state. The Matiakhara is one of the most popular dances of this Satra. There are approximate 200 devotees(basically called Bhakats) resides inside the Satra and the Managing head of the Satra is called Satradhikar. The house where all devotees and the Satradhikar resides is called Boha.

The Satra has a Museum where several valuable and rare antiques are preserved. These are-
- The Manuscripts which was written by Sri Sri Sankardeva & Madhabdeva(Dasam- a scripture written by Sankardeva, Ratnawali & Nam Malika which was written by Madhabdeva)
- Rosary which was used by Madhabdeva & Sankardeva
- Footprints of Sri Sri Madhabdeva on stones

Sri Sri Natun Kamalabari Satra:
Sri Sri Natun Kamalabari Satra is also a famous religious and cultural monastery of Majuli which is located at the heart of Majuli Island. The Satra is situated at the South Western region of Kamalabari. The Satra was established by Badala Padma Ata who was the chief disciple of Sri Sri Madhavdeva. This Satra is rich in different types of art, culture, literature & classical dance practices like Mati Akhara, Rajagharia Chali Nritya, Ankia Bhaona, Gayan Bayan etc. The Satra is also famous for the production of different types of decorated hand-made fans which are made from bamboo. In this Satra there are three birth anniversaries are observed which are- death and birth anniversaries of great saints Sri Sri Sankardeva, Sri Sri Madhabdeva, and Badala Padma Ata. Several devotees(basically called Bhakats) reside inside the Satra.
